Self Erecting Tower Crane Operator Unit Standard 20208

Course Aim
Trainees will be able to apply theory and skills in lifting and placing loads with a self-erecting tower crane through theory and practical experience.

This course is based on coaching and assessment only and is designed for trainees with experience in self-erecting tower crane operation.

Course Overview

  • Theory and practical assessments covering the following: 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of site and crane hazards and controls
  • Demonstrate knowledge of self-erecting tower crane equipment and attachments
  • Slew, trolley, and hoist the self-erecting tower crane to lift and place regular loads
  • Put the self-erecting tower crane into and out-of-service condition
  • Return associated equipment to storage, and complete documentation
  • Carry out daily and weekly operator maintenance of a self-erecting tower crane

Prerequisites (recommendations)

  • Recommendation of Unit Standard 3789 - Sling Regular Loads and Communicate During Crane Operations
  • Pre-requisite of Unit Standard 30072 - Demonstrate Knowledge of Slinging Regular Loads Safely
  • Recommendation of evidence of 6 months experience in an environment where cranes are operating.
  • Customer to provide suitable crane and lifting equipment (hire may be available at extra cost)

Use a self-erecting tower crane to lift and place regular loads - Level 3, Credits 10

Attendance Numbers: Minimum 3 -maximum 4

Course Duration: Approx. 4 hours for experienced operator or refresher (course pre-reading required)

Course Location: TBC

Course Costs: $500.00+gst per person

Mileage: $100.00+gst to Auckland, Hamilton & Tauranga and .95c+gst per km everywhere else

(Minimum number charges will be applied if minimum numbers are not met)
