Rough Terrain Crane Simulator

Overview

Major Oak Safety is using simulation as an evidence verification and collection tool to be used for risk assessment, pre-employment, up skilling and towards gaining and getting ready for the final assessments in the workplace.

We are using a high-fidelity simulator, that is as close to the real thing as possible, it is an exceptionally reliable source of evidence collection and covers a wide range of applications. By working with companies on what exact skills they require operators to possess rather than general assessment Major Oak believes that we can achieve several positive things.

  • Less inexperienced operators in high-risk plant
  • Better validation of evidence
  • Lower cost to industry (plant kept working for longer not out for assessment and training)
  • Safer workplaces.

The Rough Terrain Crane is a generic 40 ton RT crane with a 9.8 to 31 meter, 4-section telescopic boom as well as jib, and features standard capabilities available on a wide range of OEM products.

A wide of range exercises, scenarios faults etc. can be generated and used, operators can be total novice through to experienced and modules selected appropriately, below is a basic list of modules:

  • Basic Controls

  •  Unloading of Trailers (both basic and complex loads)

  • Crane operator competency course (this is the same as what we put operators through on actual equipment to become a certified operator)

  • Skills Challenge (this is the same as what we put operators through on actual equipment to become a certified operator)

  • Working in a building site (this can be a very large module depending on time and tasks selected just like a real site)

  • Steel Structures (Lifting and placing loads to high accuracy to complete a project)

  • Crane Setup Exercises - the purpose of the exercise is to practice lift planning and to set up the crane with the correct configuration before performing a lift.

  • Dual crane lifts can also be done with the rough terrain crane along side a 2nd operator to train or assess your teams together

  • The incorporation of our live Dogman station can also be used to train or assess your teams together

Options and Costs

Pre-employment or pre-project skill verification

  • Used to screen and gauge an operator’s actual ability for certain skills
  • No training given so as to gauge true ability
  • Machine familiarization, prestart checks, and post operation shutdown
  • Hazard and site identification
  • Operator will be put through international grade competency tests - general ability
  • Operator can be put through up to 2 specific skill assessments - determined by the client inline with the module outlines for that equipment type
  • Includes full report on performance, equipment measurables and areas of improvement
  • Approximately 1.5hours
  • Cost $450.00+gst

Current employment on going skills verification for competency, insurance, or compliance

  • Used to screen and gauge an operator’s actual ability for certain skills
  • No training given so as to gauge true ability
  • Machine familiarization, prestart checks, and post operation shutdown
  • Hazard and site identification
  • Operator can be put through up to 3 specific skill assessments in line with current job role - determined by the client in line with the module outlines for that equipment type and job role
  • Includes full report on performance, equipment measurables and areas of improvement
  • Approx. 1.5 hours
  • Cost $450+gst

Post incident specific skill improvement

  • Used in line with post incident reports for mitigation of a repeat incident and clarification of targeted up skilling of operator.
  • Operator is placed into a similar situation where possible - time of day, weather etc.
  • Operator is evaluated carrying out similar task to incident i.e.. struck underground service while excavating
  • Operator evaluation is used to develop training on required task until appropriate skill level is obtained.
  • Includes full report on performance, equipment measurables and areas of improvement
  • Due to different nature of incidents and operator abilities no time is allocated
  • Cost $270.00+gst per hour up to 4 hours - $260.00+gst per hour 4-8 hours - $250.00+gst per hour over 8 hours

Introduction to machine operations, specific skill improvement, efficiency improvement

  • Used to introduce new operators or up skill operators to a specific skill or level of efficiency
  • Operator evaluation is used to develop training on required task until appropriate skill level is obtained.
  • Operator is trained in specific skill until desired level of skill or efficiency is achieved - these measurables can be fully dictated by the client i.e. fuel consumption, load cycle time etc.
  • Includes full report on performance, equipment measurables and areas of improvement
  • Due to different operator abilities no time is allocated
  • Cost $270.00+gst per hour up to 4 hours - $260.00+gst per hour 4-8 hours - $250.00+gst per hour over 8 hours

All of our simulation options can be linked with actual equipment time on your site or equipment hire is additional and priced accordingly.
