2 Day W,T,R Trench-Shielding Excavation safety Course

(Includes Basic Excavation safety, Trench Shield Awareness & W,T,R)

These Packages are tailored help people gain experience and employment into specific industries, based around New Zealand industry needs and requirements. These packages are great value for money and ideal for people who have relocated to New Zealand or looking to change career and get a foot hold into a new industry.

Course Aim
Trainees that complete this course will gain a good understanding of the hazards and risks of working in and around excavations, the different types of excavations and the types of precautions and protective systems that can be used to mitigate the hazards and risks, combining theory and practical assessments participants will demonstrate the following skills.

If you drive a special-type vehicle that isn't a forklift on the road, you must have a W, T or R endorsement on your driver licence.

This course includes theory and practical components and includes:

  • W Endorsement - vehicles that run on wheels that aren’t forklifts, passenger vehicles, tractors, fire engines, trade vehicles or vehicle recovery service vehicles
  • R Endorsement - vehicles that run on rollers.
  • T Endorsement - vehicles that run on self-laying tracks.

The size weight and speed of the vehicle will be relevant to the class of licence you hold.

If a Trainee is enrolling on a vehicle driver license or endorsement course including but not limited to Car Lessons, Class 2-5 Trucks, W,T,R,F,D or V endorsements that the trainee clearly checks the pre requirement for class of license and duration stated on the course proposal or booking sheet. M.O.S.T will do our best to confirm prior to the course with the trainee, but it is the trainee who is responsible for confirming their own situation before booking a course.

The Trainee on all license and endorsement courses must also bring their physical driver license on each and every day of the enrolled course to be sited by the instructor, this can be a temporary paper license or a full photo license. If a temporary paper license trainees are encouraged to also bring a separate form of photo identification. NO PHYSICAL LICENSE, NO COURSE ATTENDANCE and  the trainee will be released from the course and treated as a non-attendance in line with our cancelation policy


 

Course Overview

  • Demonstrate knowledge of hazards, hazard control, and risks around excavations
  • Demonstrate knowledge of different types of excavations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge legislation in relation to excavation work  
  • Demonstrate knowledge of different types of protective systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of different precautions that can be implemented
  • Pre inspection of a shoring device
  • Assembly and Installation of a shoring device.
  • Removal, and after use inspection of a shoring device
  • Handling and storage of a shoring device

 

Prerequisites (Course is carried out at Major Oak Safety Training’s training facility all is provided, except footwear)

  • A suitable shoring device
  • A Trench pre dug inline with the size of the shoring device to be used
  • Use of suitable mobile plant for lifting, placing and removing the shoring device
  • Certified lifting equipment for lifting, placing and removing the shoring device
  • Room for theory assessments to be carried out.
  • Safe area for practical to be carried out (Can be done on an active worksite if isolated and safe)
  • Site specific PPE

NZQA Unit Standard: Non- Unit Standard & 16701, 16702, 16703 (W,T,R)

  

Attendance Numbers: Maximum of 8 per session

Course Duration: Approx. 2 full day (16 hours)

Course Location: Major Oak Safety Training, 1 Railway Street Paeroa, 3600

Course Costs: $2,400+gst per session (includes all licensing fees)
